The marine industry continues to take proactive measures to promote workplace safety and health in shipyards, as well as address and overcome potential hazards for workers.
The trade-specific Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) for Marine Industry WSQ Framework was jointly developed by the SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC) in collaboration with the Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI).
In line with the national goal to enhance employees’ abilities to work safely, this framework focuses on the training of marine trade workers.
The marine industry’s healthy growth has led to an increased demand for manpower at shipyards. Hence, this framework helps ensure that both new and existing workers are better trained on safety issues, helping to prevent accidents.
There are 13 modules in the WSH for Marine Industry WSQ Framework, which is targeted at training tradesmen and supervisors in the marine industry. These modules on safety will supplement and complement the trade-specific technical skills training that the workers would have undergone.
