EXPLORE AND EXPERIENCE SKILLSFUTURE FESTIVAL WITH MYSKILLSFUTURE

Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry, Mr Chee Hong Tat, launched the inaugural SkillsFuture Festival (SFF) 2018 at the Lifelong Learning Institute today. The launch event featured a showcase of sampler courses and activities by employers, training providers and community partners. Organised by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), the month-long Festival is aimed at building a culture of lifelong learning in support of the SkillsFuture movement, and Singaporeans of all ages can participate in learning activities island-wide from 30 June to 4 August 2018.

2. Singaporeans can access the SkillsFuture Festival microsite on the MySkillsFuture online portal and mobile app to find out about the Festival. Users can access key SkillsFuture events such as the SkillsFuture Festival and WorldSkills Singapore competition, obtain notification alerts on learning activities happening near them through geo-location, use a calendaring function to get reminders on upcoming events, and share pictures of their Festival experience on their social media accounts. 3. Singaporeans can also learn on-the-go and enjoy discounts for 350 Udemy courses and discounts on 80 professional book titles at McGraw-Hill Education as well as a free subscription to the entire e-library at bookboon.com during the month of the Festival. These are available on MySkillsFuture.sg/Festival and the MySkillsFuture mobile app.

ENHANCEMENTS TO MYSKILLSFUTURE PORTAL AND MOBILE APP

4. SSG will also be enhancing the MySkillsFuture portal and mobile app to make it easier for individuals to search for the appropriate training courses, and apply for courses, grants and subsidies. The portal and mobile app will guide Singaporeans in deciding the kind of skills training to go for, and point them towards the avenues for such training.
  
5. In the later part of 2018, the MySkillsFuture portal will introduce more features such as a grant calculator to help users know the grants they are eligible for, based on their profile. This will enable them to easily ascertain the cost of a course.  

6. By early 2019, MySkillsFuture will employ machine learning to make better course recommendations to promote more targeted and relevant skills acquisition. This is done through the use of user profiles, usage data and behaviour, combined with the user’s current skill set, interested job roles, as well as the required skillsets for those job roles, and recommend the types of courses the user will need to progress in his or her career. Singaporeans will also be able to access bite-sized learning content on the mobile app and access learning communities so they can learn on-the- go, at their convenience.

7. To empower Singaporeans to make more informed decisions in training, SSG has introduced quality training and outcomes ratings for selected courses. The course ratings are based on survey results from fellow learners who have completed these courses and the ratings are posted on MySkillsFuture. This allows Singaporeans to compare the ratings across courses to help them make informed decisions when selecting a prospective course or training provider for training.  

8. This initiative will be expanded to all SSG-funded courses by mid-2019 and the ratings for these courses will be available on MySkillsFuture. More details on the Training Quality and Outcomes Measurement survey initiative are in Annex B.

9. With a range of information and tools at their fingertips, Singaporeans will be empowered to take greater ownership of their personal development and proactively acquire skills to help them progress in their careers.
