11 August 2022
The SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme enables polytechnic and ITE graduates to enhance their job readiness and further gain industry-recognised qualifications, through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom learning.
The Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), supported by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), will launch four more work-study programmes in 2023.
The SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme enables polytechnic and ITE graduates to enhance their job readiness and further gain industry-recognised qualifications, through a combination of on-the-job training and classroom learning. Since its commencement in 2015, the SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme has grown steadily, and has benefitted about 9,000 participants with over 190 work-study courses. It continues to attract strong interest from the industry, with more than 1,900 companies on board the programme. This was announced by Second Minister for Education, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, at the annual SkillsFuture Work-Study Fair today.
Industry support and participation are key to the success of the Work-Study Programmes. 12 employers were honoured today for their strong support of the programme. These employers include both Multinational Corporations and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises such as Accenture, Chevron Oronite and ST Logistics, among others. The list of 12 employers is in Annex A.
Expansion of SkillsFuture Work-Study Programmes
To ensure that the work-study pathway remains accessible and caters to the varying needs of graduates, SSG has been working with the IHLs to roll out new programmes.
In 2023, Singapore Polytechnic will launch a new Work-Study Certificate leading to a part-time Diploma in Engineering (Aerospace). The Institute of Technical Education will also launch three new Work-Study Diplomas in Customer Experience Management, Agriculture and Aquaculture Technology, as well as Facilities Management.
Singapore Polytechnic has also reviewed the curriculum for its Work-Study Certificate leading to a part-time Diploma in Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing) in October 2022, to ensure that the participants will be equipped with the skills required by the industry. More information on the work-study programmes can be found in Annex B.
Annual SkillsFuture Work-Study Fair well-received by students, parents and employers
More than 2,200 attendees – including industry partners, graduates and students of the IHLs – attended the fair, which also featured a fireside chat where employers and graduates shared their experiences in the work-study programme. Students also joined in 18 webinars on work-study opportunities and careers conducted by various industry partners across sectors such as trade and connectivity, healthcare, manufacturing, media and others.
