SkillsFuture Singapore And IBM Partner For New Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Programmes

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) has partnered IBM Singapore to launch a suite of programmes in the emerging area of Artificial Intelligence (AI).  These programmes will enable Singaporeans to learn and apply AI in areas such as Human Resource, Supply Chain Management and Media. SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace will also be enhanced to include AI content produced by IBM. These initiatives were launched by the Minister for Education, Mr Ong Ye Kung, today, in conjunction with the 2nd anniversary of SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace.  

SKILLSFUTURE FOR DIGITAL WORKPLACE ENHANCED WITH AI CONTENT

More than 50,000 Singaporeans have benefitted from SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace since its launch in 2017 to equip Singaporeans with the required foundational digital skills to take on opportunities offered by the latest technological advancements.

To ensure that the SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace programme keeps pace with technological advancements, SSG and IBM have enhanced its curriculum with the inclusion of AI content. It is designed to help Singaporeans understand the fundamentals of AI technology, and how they can apply AI in their workplace and in their daily lives.

“Artificial Intelligence (AI) will become commonplace in both our work and daily lives. It is therefore timely to include AI in our SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace programme. This will help familiarise Singaporeans with the technology and better harness the use of AI,” said Ng Cher Pong, Chief Executive, SkillsFuture Singapore.

NEW PROGRAMMES IN AI

IBM is one of the first major technology partners to take on an active direct role in Singapore’s training ecosystem, taking the lead in the delivery of industry-led training. Thus, IBM will build upon the success of SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace, to deliver five new two-day AI programmes for Singaporeans, who are keen to equip themselves with the necessary skillsets in AI job roles required by the industry. Business adoption of AI, such as the use of chatbots to strengthen customer engagement and turning data into customer insights, helps to create business value for enterprises. IBM’s AI programmes will help our workers build deep knowledge and capabilities in AI. This will in turn boost the implementation of relevant AI solutions within local enterprises. Through this partnership, IBM and SSG aim to train 2,500 Singaporeans in AI and emerging skills within the next three years. According to a recent study released by IBM's Institute for Business Value, more than 120 million workers in the world’s 12 largest economies may need to be retrained or re-skilled in the next three years, as a result of intelligent and AI-enabled automation.
